Dread Daze

dreaddaze

Dread Daze has been around for about 4 years now. For the people who haven’t heard the band before, briefly describe the sound and style Dread Daze is all about.

Peace to all the good people, The Dread Daze sound and style is a blend of Reggae, Ska and our own sound we call HipRock fused to make a complete sound. "We think the message is more important and the sounds should fit correctly to make the message come across more effective and more appealing to the senses like good ear food."

The Reggae scene is constantly evolving and is being placed into so many genres, from Rock, Acoustic, Hip Hop, and more. What is your take on how this sound is now becoming?
We love it. We feel if Bob Marley, Dennis Brown or Peter Tosh was alive today we don’t think they would be doing what they were doing in the 70`s. Life, Environments and human vibes is suppose to be enhanced to carry it to the next level. We feel that music should be the same way. Stretch all boundaries and explore new terrain in sounds that is a true musical journey.

Who have been some of the most inspirational musicians you have worked with to date and why?
Great question, we have worked with Doug Wimbush, bass player who played with the rock band Living Colour, very talented guy. He played the bass line on many classic rap albums from the Sugar Hill gang to the songs White Lines and the Message by Grand Master Flash and countless recordings with other artist in all genres, his work ethic is to be followed. David Hinds from Steel Pulse is good friends with our Guitar player Belfast Brian, David taught him how to perfect the skank riff. Steel Pulse coming from the UK at that time added a distinct flavor to the Reggae sound. Traveling overseas and jamming with musicians from Africa, Europe and Brazil one big stage the togetherness of people and sounds was a true gift.

Listening to Dread Daze is like a “Variety Pack” of styles. How does each song evolve as far as what style you choose for it?
We let the vibes take us where it wants. One of us will come up with a idea and we all expound on it, for instance if we get a Reggae vibe Bassline we focus on making it come to life in Reggae way or we may choose to add a Hip Hop drum vibe or some Rock Guitar riffs to make that song a blend song. Its what we may be feeling at the time or what inspirational vibes are around.

How does music affect you and the world around you?
We feel these days some music is very lower base. Nothing for the mind and soul to grab on to. Its like a farmer that plants seeds that may not be the best. The crops will grow but will it have the proper nutrition? The music is nice and viby but does it give you the sound nourishment that you need. That is why all around the world we are all dealing with the same issues doing the best to keep a balance, nourishing sounds can help with that balance.

What has been the biggest obstacle for Dread Daze?
"Peace to all the good people, The Dread Daze sound and style is a blend of Reggae, Ska and our own sound we call HipRock fused to make a complete sound." We have always strived hard to create a unique sound that is our own. Not being exclusive just our own little thing to share and give to the world, with that it’s a good and at times a struggling thing .We are not a all Roots band or Hip Hop, or Ska band or Alternative but we incorporate those vibes and sounds at any time just depends on the mood. So with the evolving of the music scene more cliques have emerged and in a way that segregates the music. its deep folks will have the vision to create a new thing then close the door to it being selective who gets in. One can feel like a new kid in school that just wants to make friends.

What is the ultimate direction for the band?
To record albums, touring, making videos. See the world and how people live across the globe is irie thing but most of all to grow in vibes and sounds. Keeping the ears open for new and exciting works.

Is there more importance put on the message or the sounds?
We think the message is more important and the sounds should fit correctly to make the message come across more effective and more appealing to the senses like good ear food. Then there is sounds that it pure instrumentation free forming and words would take away from it. We love it all.

The album Di Wall has been out for a while now. Is there a new release in the works and what can we expect from it?
Di Wall our debut album we wanted to give the good people a over view of who and what the Dread Daze is about. Talented musicians from different musical backgrounds coming together to form a solid unit. We are currently in the studio working on new material for a Ep coming soon. Expect quality music to make you groove and think. Peace-in
